This graffiti shows hunting scenes and gladiators locked in combat: sometimes, the games\u2019 participants are singled out and, if they were particularly famous or admired by the public, they might even be identified by name or accompanied by words of encouragement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">This slab, in <i>cipollino<\/i> marble, depicts a <i>retiarius<\/i>, the unhelmeted class of gladiator armed with net and trident (the shaft of which is visible in his left hand). He wears a necklace with a medal (the gladiator\u2019s torque) and is represented victorious: in his right hand he holds a palm frond, symbol of victory. Above the gladiator, to the right, the letters [-]<i>TER<\/i> are legible, interpreted as the last letters in the cheer (<i>FELICI<\/i>)<i>TER<\/i>, \u201c<i>hurray<\/i>\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: Calibri;\">He must have been an excellent fighter to be immortalized by an anonymous spectator (in a sort of ancient snapshot), and yet we cannot help but notice the look of resignation on his face, lost in thoughts of the numerous battles fought and overcome.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":18285,"template":"","collezioni":[86],"acf":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opere\/20436"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opere"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/opere"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opere\/20436\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":20437,"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/opere\/20436\/revisions\/20437"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/18285"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=20436"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"collezioni","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/colosseo.it\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/collezioni?post=20436"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
