As part of the exhibition CARTHAGO. The immortal myth<\/strong> and the ongoing Carthago Tuesdays<\/strong><\/a> at the Parco archeologico del Colosseo<\/strong>, the Curia Iulia<\/strong> in the Roman Forum will be host to the third study day focusing on Phoenicians and Carthaginians<\/em><\/strong> on Tuesday, 28 January 2020<\/strong>. The topic of this encounter is The Tophet<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

At 9:00, the Study Day will commence with a presentation by Director of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo Alfonsina Russo<\/strong> and by Director of the Escuela Espa\u00f1ola de Historia y Arqueolog\u00eca \u2014 CSIC Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00f3n Urquijo Goitia<\/strong> and with an introduction to the work of Jos\u00e9 \u00c1ngel Zamora L\u00f3pez<\/strong>. The study day, divided into a morning session dedicated to historical sources and an afternoon session dedicated to Carthaginian archaeological evidence, will present the latest information on the topic of the Tophet<\/em> and will be an occasion to examine the real meaning and function of the Phoenician-Punic sanctuaries designed to host the tombs of children and animals.<\/p>\n

The Study Day\u2019s purpose is therefore to create the opportunity for those interested to receive the latest information on new studies and acquisitions regarding the function and meaning of the Tophet<\/strong>, with the goal of stimulating thought and opening a debate for the future<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
