SALUS PER ARTEM \u2014 On International Museum Day 2019 the Parco archeologico del Colosseo focuses on art and wellbeing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Visiting cultural sites is good for you. There\u2019s no doubt that it\u2019s good for all of us. But certain categories of visitors can benefit in a special way from observing works of art and taking part in activities held in sites of historical and archaeological importance, as these places are able to trigger new cognitive stimuli in visitors.<\/p>\n

In an effort to assess the undeniable link between art and wellbeing (both physical and mental), the Parco archeologico del Colosseo<\/strong> has designed and organized the conference Salus per Artem<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 Health through Art<\/em>, to be held on Saturday, 18 May at 9:30<\/strong> in the Curia Iulia in the Roman Forum<\/strong>. The conference will feature guest speakers, workshops and best practices to take on the topic of art therapy and its specific effects in the field of Parkinson\u2019s. Some of the leading figures in this new approach towards the treatment of neurogenerative diseases will take the podium, as will some speakers directly affected by the condition, calling attention to the importance of awareness and inclusiveness.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe found ICOM\u2019s International Museum Day<\/strong> to be the ideal opportunity analyse the visiting of cultural sites as a parallel therapy to medication as well as being a liberating experience for less privileged categories of visitors\u201d<\/em>, said Alfonsina Russo, director of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo<\/strong>, who added, \u201cit\u2019s no coincidence that International Museum Day 2019 defines the museum as a cultural hub<\/strong>: an increasingly inclusive space, able to get the most \u201cfragile\u201d categories of visitors involved, while maintaining firm bonds to the local community\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

The conference will take place in the Curia Iulia in the Roman Forum. Free entry while space is available (seating capacity max. 100), upon reservation at the email address pa-colosseo.convegni@beniculturali.it. Entry via Largo della Salara Vecchia, where guests will be asked to show their invitation and reservation.<\/p>\n
