As per tradition, all sites in the Parco archeologico del Colosseo will be open during their usual hours on 15th August – Ferragosto: Colosseum, Domus Aurea, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. The offering ranges from rich permanent collections to temporary exhibitions.

Forum Pass Super tickets are widely available and can be booked for any date without specifying a time: they can be purchased at any time and used once within 30 days of purchase, without further specifications regarding the day and time of entry. We recommend them because they allow for an extremely extensive visit to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, where you can access the House of Augustus and the House of Livia, the exhibition rooms of the majestic Domus Tiberiana, the church of Santa Maria Antiqua with its extraordinary cycle of medieval frescoes, and the Renaissance Loggia Mattei with its vault frescoed with the twelve signs of the zodiac.

The ticket also allows you to visit the exhibition dedicated to Magna Mater – the Great Mother – an ancient deity with multiple identities (Kubaba, Cybele, Kybele, Meter Theon), worshipped for over a millennium in Anatolia, Greece and Rome. The exhibition is spread across several venues: Curia Iulia, Temple of Romulus, Museum of the Roman Forum, Farnese Aviaries, Nymphaeum of Rain and – open to the public for the first time – Temple of Magna Mater.

An audio guide, which can be downloaded at the entrance to the various venues, accompanies visitors and helps them locate the exhibition sites.

There are still places available for visits to Nero’s Palace, the Domus Aurea, on 15th, 16th and 17th August. the Domus Aurea, where the cool, natural climate of the underground rooms, together with the spectacular frescoes and decorative elements of Emperor Julius Claudius, allow visitors to immerse themselves in history, enriched by a multimedia experience that uses virtual reality, video mapping and projections to reconstruct the original rooms and decorations of the famous Golden Hall.

For the Colosseum, it is possible to purchase basic “24h Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine Hill” tickets for 18 euros, to which a 4 euros supplement can be added to visit the special sites of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill mentioned above.
