The Parco archeologico del Colosseo

The Parco archeologico del Colosseo was established by DM no. 15 of January 12, 2017 , with the purpose of creating an institution endowed with special autonomy to ensure the protection and valorisation of the central archaeological area of Rome and to implement the agreement stipulated by MiBACT and the City of Rome on April 21, 2015 .

The PArCo’s domain includes both areas and monuments under direct State jurisdiction (Colosseum, Domus Aurea, Roman Forum, Palatine, Meta Sudans, Arch of Constantine and, with Ministerial Decree n. 380 of 22 October 2021, also Hadrian’s Auditoria and Trajan’s Column), as well as areas consigned to Roma Capitale (Circus Maximus, Imperial Fora), and the very rich ecclesiastical heritage consisting of the churches overlooking Via dei Fori Imperiali and along the Palatine Hill and its slopes (such as the Basilica of Saints Cosmas and Damian, St. Bonaventure and St. Anastasia on the Palatine), owned by various organisations (Fondo Edifici di Culto del Ministero dell’Interno, Vicariato di Roma and others).

Mission

The mission of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo is a constant work of education to memory, expressed in its relationship with an extremely varied public and a commitment to establishing a continuous relationship with the new generations, so relating the origins of our history to the future through the connection with Rome’s whole cultural system.

To achieve these objectives the Park is committed to the protection, conservation, research and valorisation of its archaeological, monumental and landscape heritage.

The effort to convey a knowledge of places to the public also takes place through the use of new digital technologies capable of communicating the complex character of the Park with a more comprehensible and immediate approach.

Its autonomous management gives the Park a more direct approach to its current and potential partners, with a view to increasingly being a driving force for the economy of the city and the country.
