Groups or groups of students of public and public schools of the European Union, accompanied by their teachers, have the right to free admission to the Colosseum Archaeological Park, subject to booking of free admission (Ref. DM 507/1997, Art. 4 paragraph 3 letter f), guaranteed until the availability quota established by the Director General of the PArCo is exhausted.

Non-European schools book their access against payment. Admission is free of charge for children under the age of 18.

The maximum number of participants in a school group, whether EU or non-EU, is 30, including guides, accompanying persons and free of charge.

Educational institutions that choose to be intermediated by a third party must make this choice explicit in order to be able to enjoy the benefits provided by law, otherwise they will be considered as general visitor groups.

For school groups visiting the Colosseum the following one-way route is guaranteed:

  • COLOSSEUM, ROMAN FORUM, PALATINUM ENTRANCE TO SCHOOL GROUPS AND SCHOOLS VARCUS, including visit to the first and second level of the Flavian Amphitheatre, excluding arena and underground areas (monthly and weekly sale)

Starting from March 1st 2023, in order to accommodate a larger number of students inside the Colosseum, the Management of the PArCo has decided to provide for an additional entrance specifically dedicated to school groups, also on a one-way basis, described as follows

  • COLOSSEUM, ROMAN FORUM, PALATINUM SCHOOLS ENTRANCE FROM STAFF VARCUS, including a short visit to the first level of the Flavian Amphitheatre only, excluding second level, arena and underground (weekly sale).

With reference to this route, school groups enter from the PArCo staff entrance, at the Sperone Valadier and continue the visit between the Porta Triumphalis to the west and the Belvedere to the south, enjoying the view of the hypogea, until they reach the exit. The visit, due to its short duration, does not include the possibility of using the toilets, which are available at the Palatine and the Roman Forum, in addition to those provided by Roma Capitale on the same square of the Colosseum, on the side of Via S. Giovanni in Laterano. The route is accessible to all.

School groups visiting the Roman Forum and the Palatine will have access ONLY FROM THE ENTRANCE VIA DI SAN GREGORIO.

BOOKING PROCEDURE

The reservation of the visit to the Colosseum for school groups is compulsory, school groups with “OPEN” tickets are not admitted and the reservation can be made online on https://ticketing.colosseo.it/en

Finally, the PArCo informs that exclusively for the archaeological area of the Roman Forum-Palatine (without the Colosseum), students and teachers will be able to enter, with Forum Pass Super tickets, even as individuals, in compliance with the concessions provided by law (reductions and free admission), which can be consulted here.
