PArCo Green

The Arch of Septimius Severus. A sustainable restoration project.

PArCo Green dictate our approach to restoration work too: during the work on the Arch of Septimius Severus, upon the initiative of restorer Alessandro Lugari, restorers experimented with stone bio-consolidation using carbonatogenic bacteria.
This system, developed by the University of Granada, doesn’t require the application of microorganisms, but is based on the use of the product Mixostone, which stimulates a calcinogenic response in the microbial ecosystems that establish themselves naturally in stony materials.
Such a method of bio-consolidation is potentially easier and more straightforward than similar methods that require the application of bacteria and it perfectly interprets the ecological criterion of bio-restoration in that it allows restorers to repair the stone by exploiting the material’s intrinsic metabolic potential.
