ArcheoSite. The Present of Archaeology.
Watch the live stream: ArcheoSite. Day 3
We are pleased to welcome you to the Poster Session of the ArcheoSite International Conference: The Present of Archaeology. Protection, Management, and Enhancement of Archaeological Sites between Europe and the Mediterranean.
The meeting, organized by the Parco archeologico del Colosseo and the Department for the Enhancement of Cultural Heritage of the Italian Ministry of Culture, brings together institutions, scholars, directors of archaeological parks, and sector professionals for an international discussion on the main challenges of contemporary archaeology.
In a context marked by profound social, environmental, and economic transformations, the conference, curated by Alfonsina Russo (Head of the Department for the Enhancement of Cultural Heritage), Simone Quilici (Director of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo), Francesca Boldrighini, and Astrid D’Eredità (Archaeological Officers of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo), aims to reflect on the current role of archaeological sites as places of research, protection, and memory, but also as living spaces capable of engaging with communities and contributing to the cultural and sustainable development of territories. Through case studies from Italy, Europe, and the Mediterranean area, the conference proposes a detailed analysis of practices related to protection, restoration, and monitoring; models of management and governance; strategies for ticketing and fundraising; and finally, themes of communication, public engagement, and audience development.
The programme, structured over three days and various thematic sessions, alternates keynote speeches, specialized presentations, discussion sessions, and special visits (to the Crypta Balbi construction site – Museo Nazionale Romano and the new Metro C Colosseo – Fori Imperiali station). It offers a broad and up-to-date overview of the policies and tools deployed for the safeguarding and enhancement of archaeological heritage. Particular attention is paid to the dialogue between established experiences and innovative approaches, as well as to the comparison between contexts that differ in scale, history, and management complexity.
Alongside the plenary and thematic sessions, the ArcheoSite conference dedicates a specific space to the poster session, conceived as a venue for open and dynamic exchange between research experiences, ongoing projects, and best practices in the fields of archaeology, heritage protection, and enhancement. The posters offer a wide-ranging and detailed overview of studies, interventions, and experiments, fostering dialogue between institutions, universities, professionals, and young researchers. The Poster Section, curated by Giulia Giovanetti, Archaeological Officer of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo, represents an important opportunity for visibility and sharing, broadening the conference debate and strengthening its participatory and interdisciplinary dimension.
On this page, you can consult over forty scientific contributions offering a cross-sectional overview of active projects in Italy, Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, delving into the three main thematic areas of the conference.
